SOUTH AFRICAN-GERMAN CENTRE FOR DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH

Partner countries: South Africa and Germany

This centre is co-hosted by the Institute for Social Development (ISD) and School of Government, both based at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), in cooperation with the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). The aim of the centre is to build the capacity of next generation leaders to tackle the economic, social and political challenges facing the programme. It does so by offering research intensive programmes that are multidisciplinary, combining economics, sociology and political sciences. The centre offers the following degree programmes: an MA programme in Development Management (Bochum Programme), the MA programme in Development Studies (ISD), the MPA programme (SoG) and the PhD programme in Development Studies and Public Policy. The current centre coordinators are Ina Conradie (ISD, UWC), and Britta Niklas (IEE, RUB).

This centre has at least 350 alumni.
